Rice Friend Furikake originating from Kumamoto

Kumamoto is said to be the birthplace of Furikake. In the early Taisho period, when the Japanese were lacking in calcium, someone came up with the idea of grinding the bones into powder and sprinkling it on rice to supplement their calcium intake. Since then, it has been loved by the people of Kumamoto as a "rice companion." At our hotel, we offer Yatsushiro's "Igusa Furikake" and "Gohan no Tomo."
